DIY Persian Meel

Persian Meel – the oldest strength tool of mankind still used today.

Why are we making this DIY Persian Meel template available for free?

The biggest threat that indigenous people are facing by sharing the artistic outcome of their ancient practices with the rest of the world are players who replicate their traditional designs and mislead consumers by using indigenous and traditional names for non-genuine products. In other words cultural misappropriation, a colonialist era practice.
These profit driven commercial practices disrespect the symbolic message and ethos embodied in Persian Meel and Pahlavani (Persian Yoga) culture.
Our intention is to hopefully prevent the exploitation and profiteering from our culture by bad actors and to share knowledge and insights about our arts as well as help to promote the use of Persian Meel.

Authentic Persian Meels, also called Persian Clubs, are works of art. They are the tangible manifestations of Persian cultural values and our people’s personality.

What are we going to do next?

To protect this precious and valuable cultural heritage and art there is a need to register Geographic Indications (GI) with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for the handicrafts designated as Persian Meel, to:
Protect the cultural knowledge for the benefit of the traditional producers
Provide a guarantee to consumers of an original and authentic product
Stop others from free-riding and undermining the valuable reputation of authentic Persian Meel
A geographical indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.

What has greater value to you? An authentic Japanese sword made by a master or a cheaper, mass-produced knock-off based on a template?

Why should you buy authentic Persian Meel?

Authentic Persian Meel Clubs are the embodiment of the cosmo-vision of the Persian people and the expression of a profound relationship between members of an ancient brotherhood, our history and our homeland. Receiving a pair of authentic Persian Meel is to receive a cultural artefact, a family heirloom and a functional piece of art that will keep your lineage strong for generations.
Buying authentic Persian Clubs will support traditional artisans and in doing so you will help preserve the culture and way of life of this ancient brotherhood.

How can you help protect this valuable art and precious cultural heritage?

You can help by donating to cover the legal costs associated with this registration. 100% of the donations will be used to register the GI for Persian Meel with WIPO.
The beneficiary of the registrations will be the indigenous and traditional producers of Persian Meel free of charge and without condition.
Through the course of our work since 2007 we have had multiple proposals and opportunities to mass-produce Persian Meel in low cost manufacturing facilities in countries like China and India, all of which we have turned down. Profit is not our main motivation. Promoting and protecting this valuable cultural heritage and ancient wisdom goes with the spirit of these noble arts. We only strive to walk in the path of our ancestors.
